Overview

The 2U, one-socket PowerEdge R5715 is built around storage capacity and I/O expandability, offering twelve 3.5-inch drive bays without the cost or licensing overhead of a dual-socket platform.

The Dell PowerEdge R5715 is powered by a 5th Generation AMD EPYC 9005 Series processor, 24 DDR5 DIMM slots, NVMe BOSS-N1 and iDRAC10.

Ideal for:

  • Backup and recovery targets
  • File and object serving
  • Video surveillance and retail
  • Capacity-tier and archive storage

Storage density where you need it most

The PowerEdge R5715 is a 2U, single-socket rack server built on the 5th Generation AMD EPYC 9005 Series platform. Where its 1U sibling, the PowerEdge R4715, fits eight 2.5-inch or four 3.5-inch drives, the R5715 takes twelve 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drives — three times the large-form-factor count in twice the rack space. Alternatively you can configure sixteen 2.5-inch bays where a higher spindle count and smaller failure domain matter more.

That makes the R5715 a natural fit for the workloads that consume capacity rather than cores: backup and recovery targets, file serving, capacity tiers behind a primary array, and retail or campus video surveillance where days of retention drive the sizing. A single processor with up to 32 cores is more than sufficient to keep those workloads fed, and it keeps both the acquisition cost and the per-core licensing bill down.

A backup target that does not compromise on I/O

Capacity alone is not enough for a backup target — ingest and restore windows depend just as much on the network and controller path. The R5715 carries four full-height PCIe Gen5 x16 slots, one more than the R4715, plus two OCP NIC 3.0 slots, so 25 GbE networking can be fitted alongside a PERC H965i without contending for the same expansion budget.

Boot is handled by a dedicated BOSS-N1 module, keeping the operating system isolated from the data pool. That separation matters on a capacity platform: the array can be rebuilt, re-tiered or reconfigured without disturbing the boot volume.

Right-sized configuration for targeted workloads

  • Front storage configurable as 12 x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA or 16 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA.
  • 24 DDR5 DIMM slots supporting up to 1.5 TB of registered ECC memory at speeds up to 5200 MT/s.
  • Four PCIe Gen5 x16 full-height slots plus two OCP NIC 3.0 slots supporting 1 GbE, 10 GbE and 25 GbE.
  • PERC H365i or H965i RAID with a dedicated BOSS-N1 boot device.

Efficiency in an air-cooled footprint

The R5715 is an air-cooled platform, avoiding the facilities investment that liquid-cooled servers require. Up to six hot-plug fans sustain airflow across a fully populated drive plane, while Platinum and Titanium power supplies at 800 W and 1100 W, with Fault Tolerant Redundancy, support both efficiency and uptime.

Cyber Resilient Architecture for Zero Trust IT environment & operations

Security is integrated into every phase of the PowerEdge lifecycle, including protected supply chain and factory-to-site integrity assurance. The Silicon-based root of trust anchors end-to-end boot resilience while Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and role-based access controls safeguard trusted operations. For a platform holding backup copies, Secure Erase and Data at Rest Encryption with self-encrypting drives protect data through the full retirement lifecycle.

Increase efficiency and accelerate operations with autonomous collaboration

The Dell OpenManage systems management portfolio tames the complexity of managing and securing IT infrastructure. Using Dell Technologies’ intuitive end-to-end tools, IT can deliver a secure, integrated experience by reducing process and information silos in order to focus on growing the business. 1. 1Dell PowerEdge R5715 with AMD EPYC 9135 achieves a score of 350 in SPEC CPU 2017 FP Rate, versus 229 for a PowerEdge R7615 with AMD EPYC 9124 — a 52.83% improvement. Actual performance may vary.
  2. 2Based on Dell analysis of SPEC FP Rate scores of the 24-core AMD EPYC CPU in the PowerEdge R5715 (464) versus an HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 Plus with 2x 32-core Intel Xeon Platinum 8358 CPUs (438). Both score similarly, but the Dell server achieves it with 62.5% fewer cores — with core-licensed software like Windows Server 2025 that equates to a 62.5% reduction in licensing costs. Data accurate as of 1/29/2026. Actual performance may vary.

Features

Lower TCO without giving up capacity

The Dell PowerEdge R5715 puts twelve 3.5-inch drive bays behind a single socket, reducing acquisition cost, per-core licensing exposure and energy draw at the same time.

Purpose-built for storage-forward workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R5715 is a 2U, one-socket rack server built around drive density and sustained throughput. It shares the processor, memory architecture and iDRAC10 management stack of the 1U R4715, then trades rack density for bays and PCIe slots.

  • One 5th Generation AMD EPYC 9005 Series processor with up to 32 cores per processor.
  • 12 x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA bays, or 16 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA bays for a higher spindle count.
  • Four PCIe Gen5 x16 slots — one more than the R4715 — plus an additional OCP 3.0 networking slot.
  • BOSS-N1 boot module keeps the OS isolated from the data pool for clean array rebuilds.
  • Configurable to suit diverse needs, these servers are Industry Standard open designs (DC-MHS) compliant.
